1900s Antique RPPC Bakery Store Interior Gem Currants Box Advertising

Fun piece of history from I believe Northern MN. A young man, John is smartly proud of a long roll of what looks to be cinnamon rolls in the making. An open box of GEM cleaned Currants and near by. Early kitchen scene with other nice advertising piece's overhead. One I can make out is Cow Brand Soda.

Nice early RPPC that shows slightly bumped corners and a tiny hole where this was hung as display.

19th c RPPC Antique One Lung Tractor Lumber Farm log splitter / cutter on skids

Fun piece of farming history from I believe Northern MN. These men I think are making fire wood for the locals or themselves. Looks to be a one lung machine that is belt driven. There is a faded name of sorts under one of the cast iron wheels but I can't make it out.

Nice early RPPC that shows hard working men with a machine that could be used Winter or Summer.

Divided Back, un-used. A few soiled spots but still very good for the age. Some slightly bumped corners.

Jefferson Barracks Military Post MO 1917 ~ Rare RPPC Interior Mess Hall Hallock MN

From what I can tell this is a large mess hall for the Jefferson Barracks military base.  It was an important and highly active U.S. Army installation from 1826 through 1946. It is the oldest operating U.S. military installation west of the Mississippi River.

WWI, Interior of the military post mess hall. The Jefferson Barracks Military Post is located on the Mississippi River at Lemay, Missouri. This was sent to his Sister, Laura Anderson from a soldier assigned to 16th Recruit Co.

Rare late 19th C. RPPC Street Steam Tractor Road Grader Scene ~ Vining MN

A wonderful look back on history of the big steel wheeled tractors and machines. Steam Tractor. A Road Grading Crew In Minnesota.

What appears to be a very early Steam tractor leading the way for this grading crew on a horseless carriage. Some type of tractor is just in the photo with it's front showing. This was in Vining Minnesota aprox. 1890's.

There are two men on the front tractor, operator and overseer. Three men are bringing up the rear in a carriage of kind. On lookers along the boulevard show this is a novelty and wonder to see.

The Water Carrier, 1908 Roland W. Reed Real Photo postcard ~ Indian Maiden w/ basket and birch-bark Makuk

Original real photo postcard

Very nice old real photo postcard RPPC that shows a maiden by the water with her decorative basket
and birchbardk bowl. This actual photo is dated 1908. The card is postmarked 1943. This photo
card is in good shape but edges are turned up slightly and upper right corner shows wear. See photos.
This is coincides with his photo At The Spring. Would be great framed.

Addressed to Miss Sharon Steinman from Mr. Marvin Steinman

Reed left Montana in 1899 and opened his own photo studio in Ortonville, MN, where his sister Mabel lived with her husband Ova Chamberlin. He quickly developed a multi-state reputation as an excellent portrait photographer, especially of children, and a photographer of local landscapes. As his business grew, he opened a second studio about 250 miles away in Bemidji, MN. After a few years, he began to periodically venture from his Bemidji Studio to photograph the Ojibwe Indians on nearby reservations.  In 1907 he sold his Ortonville and Bemidji studios and went to live near the Ojibwe Red Lake Reservation to begin his pursuit of portraying the North American Indian.  This task became his full-time mission for the next two years.

1907 RPPC Carl Hoglund Clothier Store ~ Fergus Falls MN Chancellor Cigar Sign

Rare real photo postcard of an old historic building in early Fergus Falls Minnesota.

Facing the photographer is more than likely the store owner/owners and his help. Carl O. Hoglund
of Fergus Falls. Maker of fine clothing.

The Awning above the store is slightly worn due to weather. The windows are adorned with the lettering Carl O. Hoglund, Maker of Fine Clothing. The large advertising sign is wonderful. "Oldest and Best Chancellor Cigar". The sing to the far left of the business say's "Edwards Wood Co. Stocks Grain Provisions"...Would love to see the rest of the signs on the next building to the right. I can make out Human Hearts with a man in striped jail clothes and the beginning of what looks to be a ANNA Held cigar sign.

Antique RPPC 1912 4th fourth of July Celebration ~ Town Scene Morristown S.D.

Great antique real photo postcard of the Corson County Cityscape and people in Morristown, South Dakota.

Fourth 4th of July celebration with slightly cloudy day overhead. Doing research I see that during those early years they held auto races so maybe that is why the folks are by a dark dirt road on the outside of town. Not sure.

Morristown had its start in 1907 when the railroad was extended to that point. The town was named for Nels P. Morris, a cattleman.

There is a crease across center going up & down. Some slight dimples. Lower right hand corner is bumped hard. See my photos and email with questions

Scarce RPPC Turn of the Century City Hall ~ Santa Ana CA Postcard

Scarce view and non-typical of what is usually seen of the City Hall in Santa Ana California at the turn of the Century.

Not sure of the story or history with this City Hall. This photograph postcard is from the early turn of the century. Where as the Art Deco structure that I find in my research appears to be in the same location but built in the 1930's. This obviously is quite older. Beautiful structure.

There is a line of early autos along one side. The other shows a flange sign showing rest room. On the curb is a bright address, N. Main St. Attractive light poles etc. The photo postcard most found is with bicycles along side. This is a more scarce scene.

Very good condition. Slightly bumped corners. See my photos and email with questions prior to purchase.

Great antique real photo postcard of the Shea Tourist Court Hotel Motel for tired travelers.

Wonderful early look at the scarce bungalow motel hotel courts that used to exist for roadside America.
Brick building more than likely a part of the past. This shows an Office sign and the Shea's Tourist Court original sign.

This shows a slight difference in the upper portion of the shine finish. Again very top and not noticeable. Slightly bumped corners.

RPPC 1910 Fargo North Dakota ~ Frank McKone or Nestor Cigar Tobacco Store Front

Great antique photographic postcard of a storefront (store front) of one of I believe two cigar stores at the turn of the last century in Fargo ND.

Exceptional advertising in and on the window. Anna Held flange sign, "Have you smoked Bagdad", Native American advertisement, Dan Sully Cigar, "We Sell Swissess", Yankee Girl, Moose Leaf, Mail Pouch, Velvet, Tuxedo, and more tins on shelf inside the window. Very cool and unique pipe holder.

Fantastic Pawnee Bill's wild west show poster, (Gordon W. Lillie, aka Pawnee Bill), in the window for a show to be held Aug. 25th, presumably at Fairgrounds. Would love to make out more of the writing on this.

Third shelf down from the top - White cabinet is two glass and wood tobacco hookah's or bongs

The man in the striped pants has an unusual cap on and a leather Key Fob? with a swastika with arrows I think....more of a Native American Symbol.

This shows original rounded corners slightly bumped. Very slightly rippled Semi circle soft crease by man. Otherwise very good. Dated on the back 7/10/10. See my photos and email with questions prior to purchase.

RPPC First Christian Church, Coupe & Model T Autos  ~ Santa Ana, Calif

Wonderful early large church in Santa Ana, California. This great real photo shows the large building with a street scene out front. Three early automobiles of the times. One coupe or roadster with a collectible clip on advertisement on the spare tire at it's back, a sedan and facing the camera a delivery with the maker's name across the grill. Excellent views for the auto lover. The two on the curb look to be Model T's with wood spokes in the wheels.

Other great sites are W. Sixth St on the curb, Street sign, Light post and California landscape tree's in the background.

Rare Antique RPPC Greystone Hotel ~ Detroit, MN (Detroit Lakes) Standard Gas Station

Very scarce photographic postcard of the Greystone Hotel in Detroit, Minnesota.

The city of Detroit Lakes, originally called Detroit, began north of the railroad tracks and gradually extended south to Detroit Lake. Development of the Detroit Lakes Area began in 1871, as the Northern Pacific Railroad etched its way westward through Becker County. Settlers from the East reached this new territory to discover a small, country community called Tylerville or Tyler Town.

This shows a very large Hotel called the Greystone. Originally completed in 1917, the 36,000 square foot, 4 story Graystone Hotel was once a hub of community commerce.

Next door to the Hotel is a small Standard Oil Gas Station showing a very early gas pump out front.

Good condition. Some spotting that looks to be original to the photo. Slightly bumped corners. See my photos and email with questions

Rare Antique (2) RPPC Santa Ana, Calif. El Patio Real Architecture ~ The Courtyard

Hard to find, 1930's photographic postcards of the Courtyard apartments called El Patio in Santa Ana, Calif.

Beautiful Spanish style showing in both postcards with two different views and angles. Note the great early block of concrete in the middle of the road for a stop sign. Seems to me it's more like a speed bump :)

Model A Coupe in the front of the front view postcard. Decorated balcony's and painted stair risers, beautiful centered wishing well and full grown palms in the center courtyard. The classic sign is shown "El Patio 1228".

Believe to be still viable apartments today and restored but not sure.

Antique RPPC McIntosh SD ~ Branding Cattle Rodeo Cowboy Old West

Great RPPC Photographic postcard showing rugged Cattle Ranch Cowboys branding cattle in the early 1900's. Titled at the bottom, Cattle Branding McIntosh S.D.

This is a 5.6 x 3.5 post card of several individuals (Cowboys) gathered in front of the gates, all part of the process of branding and comradery.

Most in coveralls and boots, the man in the forefront is wearing what looks to be a knit cap, others in the Ben Hogan type cap and others in traditional cowboy hats. South Dakota had a large immigrant population their dress portrays it.

Very scarce scene. Excellent for the collector of RPPC's, Cowboy and Western Scenes or Town history.

Antique RPPC Oneonta Tunnel West Portal through a rock. Historic Columbia River Hwy, Multnomah Country, OR

Photo by: "Cross & Dimmitt ". Serial Number: 491. As seen in Face Title! "AZO" in Stamp Box!

Believed to be built 1914. In 1914, the Multnomah County Road Department and Samuel Lancaster sought to align the route so that it brought travelers to the mouth of Oneonta Gorge, a canyon so narrow that its basalt walls almost touch as they rise two hundred feet above the creek. Subsequently, the county built Oneonta Gorge Creek Bridge. Carrying the alignment past a nearby 200′ bluff, a continuation of the Oneonta Gorge, proved more difficult. In the 1880s the Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation Company (OWRN) had laid out its route along the Columbia River’s south shore.

Formerly carried the Historic Columbia River Highway, Multnomah Country, Oregon, through a rock outcropping immediately east of the mouth of Oneonta Gorge. Not sure if still in use.

Very good condition. Some soiling to back corner. Slightly bumped corners. Standard-size postcard. Unused, undivided, undated.

Awesome Architecture & Palm Trees, Santa Ana Calif Court House ~ Vintage 1900s RPPC

Via the internet; Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana around the 1910s. The courthouse was built twelve years [1901?] after Orange County separated from Los Angeles County on June 4, 1889. On July 11 of that year, Santa Ana was selected over Anaheim and Orange to become the County Seat.

The building was designed by C. L. Strange, an architect and former building supervisor from Los Angeles. It bears resemblance to the style of courthouses seen in many mid-western cities and towns. The formal design, massive Arizona red sandstone walls and Temecula granite base, created a sense of order and importance befitting a county courthouse. The roof is made of metal, painted to look like red clay tiles. A metal cupola topped the building. The cupola was painted to resemble the red sandstone of the rest of the building. On November 12, 1901, the new courthouse was opened with an all-day celebration.

Rare Library & Elk's Club Santa Ana Calif ~ Vintage RPPC Cars & Elk's Heads!

Very cool and scarce RPPC showing the Public Library 1903 and the Elk's Fraternal lodge next door. Check out the awesome Elk heads at the entrance
of the lodge. On the side of that building it looks to have a sign that say's 'East Door'.

The Library is of beautiful architecture and design with several wonderful early model cars out front. As with California street's (even when I lived out there
many years ago), the curb shows the address. It looks like it says, W. Fifth St.

Beautiful card in very good shape with only slightly bumped corners. A very minor little bend to the card. Very hard to see. Part of a wonderful collection well cared for.

Two Rare Bemidji MN Elks Club #1052 Interior Shots ~ Vintage RPPC Retro Saloon Bar decor!

2, two exciting and fun RPPC's of the Bemidji Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. in Minnesota. Probably dating from the 1940's - 50's.

These show a great vintage retro interior in fabric, early linoleum flooring, wall hangings, lighting, barstools etc. In the bar scene there is a banner that states Bemidji 1950.

In the lounge scene there is a 'trash can' style Jukebox - Seeburg Symphonola Model 147S Trashcan 1947 in the far corner. Whatever happened to that! And behind the Seeburg is some sort of Art Deco Console Speaker? There is a mic next to it so maybe a stage piece for the band.

Beautiful cards in very good shape with only slightly bumped corners and some discoloration to the backs far left side. Does not effect the front photos.

Undivided back. Un-posted. Kodak postmarked.

Vintage RPPC 1900s Antique Train - Breckenridge MN Railroad Depot

Via the internet; The Minnesota legislature, eager for rail lines in its territory, granted charters as early as 1853 and issued one in 1857 to the Minnesota & Pacific Railroad Company. The latter provided for construction of a line from Stillwater, Minn., on the St. Croix River, to St. Paul, St. Anthony (now Minneapolis) and Breckenridge, and another by way of St. Cloud to St. Vincent on the Canadian border.

Very early steam engine? sitting by this great old depot in Brecknridge MN.  I can kind of make out the numbers on the train as 153 or 53 ? Hard to see.

Two Vintage RPPC Santa Ana, Calif ~ High School Buildings 1900's

Very nice early Santa Ana California High School real photo postcards. Both show different views of the school. Not sure where this was located as far as streets but the school looks very large. Am guessing the dates for these shots were probably 1930's or earlier?

One is the front of the building with early 20's cars in front, the other is of the High School Science Building. Both are titled and numbered from the photographer.

Rare RPPC W.R.C. & G.A.R. Patriotic Civil War Organizations Deaconess Hospital -  Staples Minn

More than likely Memorial Day in Staples Minnesota. The Woman's Relief Corp and
The
Grand Army of the Republic stand proudly in front of what I believe to be the Deaconess Hospital.

American Flag and Drums near by, there must have been a parade of these great organizations.

The W.R.C. is one of the many women's organizations that were founded after the American Civil War. In 1879 a group of Massachusetts women started a "secret" organization and its members were to be women who were loyal to the North during the Civil War.

Founded in Decatur, Illinois on April 6, 1866 by Benjamin F. Stephenson, membership was limited to honorably discharged veterans of the Union Army, Navy, Marine Corps or the Revenue Cutter Service who had served between April 12, 1861 and April 9, 1865.  The GAR founded soldiers’ homes, was active in relief work and in pension legislation. Five members were elected President of the United States and, for a time, it was impossible to be nominated on the Republican ticket without the endorsement of the GAR voting block.

Very early RPPC that is used and posted. Postmarked Staples 1910 and addressed to; Miss Edla Unger of Grand Forks ND.

Very good with only slightly bumped corners, part of a wonderful collection.
