Incredibly rare, authentic pair of early 20th century heavy duty leather gauntlet mittens. These belonged to a gentleman who was in the first world war. His daughter kept all his belongings.

These were manufactured by the W.L. Manufacturing Company out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Extremely well built for the brutal Upper Midwest winters, this style of cold-weather gear was heavily favored by early open-cockpit aviators, vintage motorcycle riders, etc.
Original fully intact gold on black woven tag shows W.L. Mfg. and the size, 9.5 (Vintage Men's Large).  The snap is showing Wells (for Wells Lamont Manufacturing Co).

These have stiffened ridged wide forearm cuffs to keep the wind from collapsing the leather. The leather shows genuine aged patina and honest wear consistent with a 90 plus year-old item. Seams are tight and still intact. Leather is soft and pliable. The fleece or shearing? lining looks to be in good condition. Only one tear to the fan portion to the cuff of the right handed mitten. It can probably be repaired if the new owner chooses. Please note the leather cuffs show heavy surface abrasions. Despite cosmetic deterioration, the cuffs remain structurally intact, with stitching still holding and no major tears.

Rare surviving example of early American cold‑weather gear. Great gift idea or would be killer as a collectors or museum display. Please see photos and email with any questions you may have. Thanks for stopping in
