New Mexico Fiber Art, 1960s Boho Multicolor Vest
Vibrant handmade vest crafted in New Mexico during the mid‑1960s, featuring a striking mix of novelty “eyelash” and textured yarns. The design showcases abstract chevron and patchwork patterns in vivid jewel tones - turquoise, violet, magenta, copper, and deep brown all that creates a dynamic, shaggy surface reminiscent of fiber art from the era. Each section is hand‑worked. Believed to be made of mixed synthetic and wool blend novelty yarns (“eyelash” and boucle types).
Size: Approx. women’s medium
26" pit‑to‑pit and 25" collar‑to‑hem
Perfect Bohemian, psychedelic, and folk‑art influences typical of Southwestern craft movements. A wearable art statement that would be perfect layered over black or neutral tones to highlight its vibrant colors.
As found in a textile estate with other handmade pieces from New Mexico where the owner lived. She I believe was the artisan.Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear. The fibers remain vibrant and intact throughout. There is a small, unobtrusive hole near the collar, consistent with age and use, which does not detract from the overall presentation or wearability and I believe would be an easy repair for the handy person. Includes original black neck and hem ties and back split detail. No odors, very fresh.
