Rare American mercantile counter. .A scarce monumental late‑1800s general‑store counter, hand‑crafted in pine or fir, retaining its original cream paint and rich aged patina. This piece represents the heart of the American mercantile era, when counters like this anchored dry‑goods stores, apothecaries, and trading posts across the Midwest.  Constructed circa 1880–1900, this counter reflects the transition from Victorian formality to utilitarian design. Its paneled front and molded top edge were meant to impress customers while providing durability for daily commercial use. The back side, fitted with multiple drawers and open shelving, still shows the honest wear of generations of shopkeepers.

Condition
Note that the first photos show the piece after we brought it home, uncleaned. The other shots are in our shop. Solid and sturdy with age‑appropriate wear that enhance its character. Drawers slide smoothly; structure remains sound. Very generous in size.
