The Orpheum Theatre, originally known
as the Hennepin, opened in 1921
Its first performers included the Marx Brothers with more
than 70,000 guests attending the opening week run. Billed
as the largest vaudeville house in the country when it
opened, the Orpheum became a major outlet for such
entertainers as Jack Benny, George Burns, and Fanny Brice.
It also hosted big bands including Benny Goodman, Tommy
Dorsey and Count Basie.
This is an original photograph that I have had in my
collection for a long time. This depicts a group of
theatrical actors, all of which are laughing and joking,
quite a neat scene. I'm not sure what production this would
have been for. Stamped in the bottom right corner, 'Orpheum
Studio, Minneapolis'. This photo was taken during its
earliest years in the first half of the twentieth century.
Measures approx. 8" x 10"
